On to something else. For awhile I've been thinking of making a post about the stuff going on between Canada and the US right now, but I've been waiting to see what happens. But I'd like to point something out to those who are pro-war right now. Our official stance here may be that we don't support the war on Iraq, but we are most definitely still on board the "War on Terrorism" going on. This is important because it means we have a number of troops (some are on front lines) and some ships in the area. These people are technically participating in the war on Iraq even though our official position is no war on Iraq. This effectively means WE ARE PARTICIPATING, BUT NOT SUPPORTING THE WAR on Iraq. If we were truly, 100% not going to support and wanted to be pricks, we would then pull ALL of those troops out of the area, but we won't. Many of the soldiers in Iraq are officers and technicians, so pulling them out would cause the US problems because they are in an exchange program we have going on. Add to that, that we are presently in command of all naval forces in the area, pulling out would again, cause some trouble (also suggested that our JTF-2 troops are in Iraq). We are not doing that. We may not be helping the US in the war on Iraq, but we have been giving them support in other ways that of course, don't get the headlines and make us look bad, etc. We have an increased role in Afghanistan to free up US soldiers and equipment to help in Iraq is one example. So while my government is not giving moral support, we are supporting the war on Iraq in several other ways. So all the comments about Canadians is a tad annoying to me and why I've been waiting to post about this and more so I could try to see the end result first.

Didn't I hear somewhere that actually we do have some naval forces in the persian gulf and are actually indeirectly helping out with the war on Iraq more than the 40 some odd other countries that aren't fighting? I could be wrong...

Yep, we have several ships there coordinating most of the naval stuff going on. That's why there was a big noise over the Sea King chopper that crashed, because that ship was going to take command of all naval ships from all countries in the area. We're either 3rd of 4th (depending on how you view that vs the 2000 troops from Australia), in how much military support they have for the war on Iraq.

If we were truly 100% anti-war and wanted to be pricks, we'd pull all of them out which would cause problems. We may dissagree with the US right now on the war on Iraq, but we aren't being stupid and causing them unnecessary problems. It's why I have issues over the trouble Bush is giving us over this (to be explained in another post later tonight).

Yeah okay. I wondered why people were being so annoyed with Canada when we're actually helping out with the war more than most of the other countries who agreed with the US/Britain.

I'm glad you've brought it up.
