So today I did the Phys Ed, English, Tech combo today for three different teachers, heh. Oh, and handed out report cards for a fourth teacher at the end of the day. Phys ed went well, they were a great bunch, very quiet which left me with very little to do since they were self sufficient. But I'm getting ahead of myself. You may remember that I've been trying to get evaluations done of myself because I have to have three done within 30 calls? Well, I finally got an evaluation done!! Yay! There wasn't much to see in the Phys Ed class of course heh. So he came back during the English class because there was a lot going on in that class today. They had a spelling test that I administered, then I had to read a short story to them and have a discussion about it. That's when the VP came in to do the rest of the evaluation.
This was the first time I have had a discussion in a class that I've controlled.....and I of course didn't do it perfectly, but that's okay. I didn't have them raise their hands to respond to things and I was a bit slow on telling someone in the back to shut up, er quiet down ;) I was a tad nervous to do so with the VP there which was part of it, but mostly, it's not worth it when you're a supply. You're more likely to lose control of that person and others I've found. As their regular teacher, you bet I'd clamp down quickly. At the end of the day when I talked with the VP about the evaluation, that bit was the only negative thing, otherwise, I had done very well from what he saw. I've been told repeatedly that I'm good at what I do, but I'm still nervous due to inexperience, but that is slowly fading away and I'm far more confident now than ever before. Anyway, the rest of the English class was spent having me and the EA read aloud a long story to the class and then they had to answer questions on their own about it to hand in. Class went extremely well compared to yesterday heh.
The situation with the tech class is interesting. There is a remote chance that the guy who was over 65 just may well wind up teaching after all. There is to be a meeting of the school board on Monday night to discuss this issue. Policy is that no one over 65 can teach, but since most of the these kids only needed this class to finish their program, they might be able to convince the board to have the guy there for only this term. As a result, one of the guidance counselors was in to talk with the students about their options, because the older teacher is only a small chance. They've come up with some interesting ideas to take care of things, but details still need to be sorted out. She, and the VP, were not impressed with the low attendance in that class today which isn't helping. After all the talking, I was supposed to start them on WHMIS training, but many refused to cooperate since they may not be doing the course, so why start on health and safety they figured. This led to a mass exodus out of the classroom and just ignoring the video. Oh well. They were reported to the office after school for leaving (three days straight, I've learned a few names heh).
So now, I've finished my stint at the school, but they may yet ask me back on Monday and possibly for Tuesday, but for now, they can't guarantee it. And that could also lead to work on Wed and Thurs if they can hire the guy (so he has time to prepare for the course). So things seem to be going better for me work wise for teaching.
When I got back to the city, I checked out my hours for next week at the store. They've got me working Mon, Thurs and Fri nights and most of Sat. That'll be annoying if I wind up doing what I think they'll have me doing on those days, oh well, no biggie. I picked up some pizza tonight since it's been awhile since I had some and I have all weekend long for relaxing so I'm planning on enjoying it.
