So, yeah

When I was originally called to work today, they told me for four sections of math. When I got in today, I found out I was right, it wasn't four sections of math at all, heh. It was two sections in the morning, then a nutrition class and an English class in the afternoon. The math classes went fairly well. I had arranged to have an evaluation done in the afternoon so that I'd have my second one done finally. Well, life works against me. There was a fight at a nearby school and some people from the school I was at were involved and/or spectators so the VP's had to investigate which meant, no evaluation. Blah. You have no idea how hard it is to have these done and some twits decided to have a fight and ruin my timing. Yeah it's harsh, but I'm running out of time to have these done. If I don't have them done by the end of my probationary period, I can get in some trouble so I'm not happy with those idiots right now.

Anyway, there was a play going on in the third period so of course, third period was rather empty heh. I had three students left in my class. Most didn't show up, but those that did, most had tickets to go. So dealing with three students is always nice and easy. I had taught one of them before and she liked me and still thinks I'm a great teacher to have. We all had fun chatting and doing work.

Last period was, well, interesting. I have not dealt with an essentials class before. Essentials is essentially the new name for basic level for those students who are forced to be there. There was of course an EA there to help out which was good for the students. The students there need to be handled a bit differently that I'm not used to in some cases. I prefer to deal with students equally as much as possible. If you don't want to listen to me, don't want to deal with me, well, I don't want to deal with you. And with these students, about half the class were like that. I was more than willing to toss them all down to the office, but gave them more chances than normal. These kids essentially either can't, or are barely able to read. In most cases it's because they don't care and don't want to spend time learning. No matter how hard you try, or how many chances you give, they don't want to learn. As far as I'm concerned, if you are like that, don't waste my time and don't waste your time. But if you are going to waste everyone's time, I won't stand for it. Essentially I don't take crap and I don't let them intimidate me. Anyway, I'm rambling on about this. It boils down to it being an interesting experience to have to deal with them. If I had to deal with them on a regular basis I'm sure I'd adapt fine, but on a temporary basis, it's kind of annoying. Eh, I'm just rambling on, don't mind me. Even saying all that, it's the things like in third period, or some fun conversations I had in the earlier math classes that make it worthwhile for me and other teachers. The great kids in third peirod made up for the kids in fourth period. A bit of praise from some students can go a long way when it comes to dealing with the bad students. So I still say I had a good day even with the fourth period class.

Fact of the Day:
A spider web weighing only once ounce is so thin, it could reach from New York to Paris.

Question of the Day:
How do houseflies manage to land on the ceiling upside down?

Think about this one...When the fly is heading for the ceiling, it's flying right side up. When it lands on the ceiling it is upside down. At some point along the way it has to flip over. But when? And Where? And How?

Scientists dispelled the prevalent theory, that the fly performed a fighter pilot-like barrel roll just prior to landing, by capturing this momentous event on film.

Freeze frames, from the high-speed cameras scientists used, proved that flies do not flip, but flop, as they land upon the ceiling. Prior to impact, the fly extends its forward legs over its head, makes contact, and uses the momentum it has gathered in flight to hoist the remainder of its body to the ceiling. Thus, the fly proves to be more of an acrobat, than of a fighter pilot practicing his maneuvers.

Oh lovely

Environment Canada has advised people to stay off the roads across South-Western Ontario and guess what I have to do? Go to work at the store *smirks*

Lovely fun

Well, ever since I tried to leave for work, things have been annoying for me. When I got out to the car, guess what happened? It wouldn't start for me at all. I checked what I could with my limited knowledge and couldn't figure out what was going on. As far as I could tell, it should be starting. I checked for my youngest brother to see if he was home, and he wasn't. I checked for my other brother to see if I could use his car to get there. Nope, his wife had taken it to work. Thankfully, just then my youngest brother did show up. He did a few checks and discovered there is of course a problem that needs fixing. So I'm looking at between $100 and $150 for repairs including labour. He's going to try and get it done tomorrow for me. In the meantime I took his car to work since he didn't need it for tonight. So I'll have to wait and see what happens tomorrow.

Work was it's usual charming fun. I talked to the girl I was tutoring awhile back on my break. Almost none of the stuff we covered showed up on the test heh (only one question in the math section was something we covered). Ah well. She made note of what was on this time so next time I can effectively help her. She has another test to do for next weekend. So at some point we'll get together this week so I can properly help her out. I also gave more information to another person about the education program at MUN and how to get in.

When work was finally over, I went out and everything was plastered in snow. Lots and lots have fallen already at that point. Driving home was a blistering speed of 20km/h (roughly 13 mph) due to bad road conditions. No one was going faster than that.
