Can't remember who I got this from, so I thought I'd post it here. It's a live action version of the Simpsons opening credits.

This is a short summary of something that had more stats in several newspapers.

As some of the women on staff said, it would be interesting to do one of these on men. But many pointed out how misleading some of the stats are because they didn't take factors into consideration. Like, comparing women's income to men in an overall sense instead of job to job. If most women are part-time or work in service industry, how can the overall ever reach mens? Or how many single women live alone (women live longer so they would live on their own later in life)? Etc.

Found some interesting stats of misconecptions Americans have with Canada:

* That 90 per cent of Canadian marijuana is smuggled into the United States. It was actually about 2 per cent in 2003.

* That Canada has a lot of illegal immigrants. Actual estimates range from 60,000 to 200,000 compared with 12 million in the United States. (ETA: Add in size differences, and we have between 500k and 1.8 mill compared to 12 million)

* Canada caused the electricity blackout of Aug. 14, 2003. It began in Ohio.

* Homicide rates are as high in Canada as in the United States. They are three times lower.

So, what's the point of this? MPs can now question Supreme Court nominees as like the US (any surprise the right wing nuts who want us to be exactly like Americans did this in such a short time after taking office?) but they have no power over who is nominated. So, what's the point aside from making it look like a circus?
