Hypocrites and opportunists
May. 7th, 2005 12:02 pmMy opinion of the Conservative party continues to fall farther and farther. This story is frustrating in terms of how hypocritical the Conservatives are. Thing is, what the Liberal had said was wrong and not proper and he should be punished in some way. Of course everything else surrounding it is wrong. I can't count the number of times that members of the Conservative party have been guilty of such comments or worse and the worst that happened to most of them was a talk from their party leader. Wow, harsh *smirks*. After initially saying it wasn't much more than 'a schoolyard taunt' and refused to say anything else, he comes out the next day, flanked by more than a dozen other Conservatives saying it was racist, he should be fired, etc and even went so far as to use the WW2 remembrance going on to connect it to that to stir up more emotions. Classy.
The story gets worse. This all came about from allegations from this gentleman and others saying they were contacted by cabinet ministers and offered ambassadorships and such in exchange for critical votes on upcoming legislation or possible defection to the Liberal party. There are problems with it. One being that cabinet ministers don't have that authority so it makes no sense. Now he's refusing to say who contacted him about this even though what he's alleging is a criminal matter. The Prime Minister's Office is saying HE contacted them about this stuff. Then when pressed by reporters on how strange this all is, he responds:
""That's another story, OK? ... This story is about a statement made by a cabinet minister.""
I don't know about you, but that's not the kind of response one would get if he was being truthful.
So now we have Conservatives doing all this stuff when they pretty much always turn a blind eye to such people in their own party and are using the WW2 memorials and recent scandals to try and make themselves look good going into an election that they are trying to force when the majority of Canadians (2/3 last time I heard) don't want one until after the final report.
So the Conservatives are hypocrites, opportunists of the worst kind and trying to grab onto power when they don't deserve it.
What bugs me about the scandal is how it's being received. It's like I say John Smith is committing dozens of acts of fraud and then everyone believing what I said and applying the same illegal activities to all of his associates. That's not right but it's how the Conservatives are operating. How can anyone support such a group of people who constantly show signs of right wing extremism with no attempts to stop it.
