Trade Issues
Mar. 8th, 2005 08:27 pmTo say there are a few trade issues between Can and the US would be an understatement. The laws in the US make it easy for groups to complain and have tariffs added to imports which are later then dropped because they are illegal/not needed. Well this is just stupid.
The same group (R-CALF) that has been the biggest opponent of allowing Can cattle back into the US, has been going around making big purchases of cattle in Canada. They are complaining about how unsafe it is, how it'll harm the US, etc Really what they want is to keep the higher prices that they are enjoying (hence higher profits of course) and to allow the Can industry to continue to falter so that they can buy the cattle cheap. Some are buying as much as 30,000 head each and keeping them here until the border is reopened. Yes, of course it's unsafe, hence why they are buying tens of thousands of cattle while at the same time talking about how allowing them back into the US would harm them.
Nope, no conflict of interest and no reason for anyone to be suspicious of anything. *smirks*
