How do lizards communicate?

Lizards in the suborder Iguania communicate by doing push-ups and other athletic displays. They convey territoriality, courtship displays, and other messages with various combinations of push-ups, body postures, head movements, and displays of colorful belly patches or throat dewlaps.

The Iguania includes the common sagebrush lizards of the American west, as well as iguanas and tropical anoles. Different species have different languages, and within each species there may be regional "dialects."

A recent study showed that, like the languages of humans and some kinds of birds, lizard body language is an open grammatical system. This means that they can express many different messages using a fixed set of symbols combined in various orders.

Two women in Georgia get into an argument. So of course they worked it out between themselves....by having one douse the other with about two litres of gasoline and setting her on fire.

Yet another problem has creeped up over HRT (Hormone Replacement Therapy). The risk of dementia is higher it seems. It was believed by some that HRT helped prevent memory loss and dementia due to results from small studies. This was a large study and showed an increased risk. It's expected that in a group of 10,000 women over 65, there will be 22 cases of dementia a year. For those taking HRT, the number climbs to 45.

This one is mainly for me since it's astronomy, but astronomers have found evidence that planet formation may occur far more quickly than originally thought. They concluded in their study that the beginning of planet formation may start as soon as three million years after the birth of a star, three times faster than believed by most astronomers. Odd fact, being off by a factor of three in astronomy isn't always a bad thing for your calculations hehe. Yes, I'm still amused by that.

Can anyone say they are surprised by this? Kids who live with smokers miss more school. To most of the population, this is common sense and easily understood. To smokers, they tend to either deny this or not care. Those who say they can't quit, if you have kids, that alone should be enough of an incentive to try to quit over and over. How can you live with yourself knowing you are sentencing them to a shorter life span with increased risk of health problems all their life?

Regarding a British man who decided to trek his way to the North Pole without support or notifying people as everyone else does, has just recently been rescued. No one tries it this late in the year due to extreme danger of warming temperatures that break up the ice. I like what person said:

"It's not the issue of him running out of food. It's the issue of going to the pole at this time of year that is just a bit stupid and you are putting a lot of people's lives at risk doing it," he said.

That about sums up what the guy did heh.

Fact of the Day: The Japanese word for chef, itamae, literally means "in front of the cutting board."

Question of the Day:

Why do clocks run Clockwise?

Mechanical clocks were invented in the northern hemisphere by inventors who were trying to make models of the sun's movement in the sky.

To watch the sun from the northern hemisphere, you have to face south. Then the sun will rise on your left and pass over your head to set on your right. Since the hour hand on the clock was made to follow the sun's motion through the sky, it moves from left to right over the top of the clock - clockwise. The hands are actually modeled after the shadow on a sundial.
