Inventory fun
Apr. 27th, 2003 09:36 pmFirst, I talked with one of the front end managers/cash office people about my tie. Yeah, I was going to need a new one. Technically I was going to have to pay $5 for a new one. But since I'm well known and liked by most of the staff there, she got me one to use without paying for it heh.
So the inventory for the store was done last night. Or more appropriately, started last night. These guys were way behind when I got to work. They were just starting in my department when I showed up for work at 9am this morning. What does this mean? I can't do anything at all until they get some stuff done. The department head was there helping out so I was talking with her and we both tried to think of things to do because neither of us had anything to do. I didn't get to do any work until 11am, two hours later. I spent those two hours trying to look busy heh. Then there was the issue of prices. Inventory counts regular prices, so all the specials had to be covered up with the regular prices for the count. Well, a couple of times we had to explain why the prices were wrong, even though the regular prices were written in pen on scrap paper *smirks*.
After inventory was done (they didn't actually leave till after 1pm!! but I could start work at 11am thankfully), I got to spend the day trying to catch up and cleaning their mess by myself. Normally two people would have been working on this, but I was the only one who signed up for today (Sundays are voluntary). The other guy called yesterday to see about working, but it was too late and the schedule was set and hours for the week couldn't easily be changed. One of the fun parts of their mess is all the damn pieces of yellow paper they use to mark items that have been counted. They clean up their mess, but still miss about a quarter of the damn things. Considering how they can leave a number of them, that's a lot of extra paper. Not to mention the paper signs we had to identify what category some items fall into. Combined with changing all the prices back to normal ASAP. That's a lot of extra paper all over the place to clean up. To say I was busy was an understatement. Thankfully the department head is perfectly aware of the situation and how it was going to go. Another all day Sunday of working there is over, but I gained several more cuts to my hands yet again. Yay or something.
