U.S. troops in Iraq will soon be able to adorn their quarters with the 21st Century's answer to World War II pin-ups, as the publisher of Maxim and Stuff ships free copies of the men's lifestyle magazines to their mailboxes. Dennis Publishing said it hopes its scantily clad cover models will help U.S. soldiers endure war in the same way the curvy girls drawn by Peruvian-born artist Alberto Vargas became one of the biggest morale-boosters among servicemen in the 1940's. Dennis Publishing said on Tuesday it is shipping 15,000 free copies of Maxim, Stuff and its musical magazine Blender to 40 different military tent sites across Kuwait, Jordan, Qatar, Afghanistan and Oman. Meanwhile Time Inc.'s Sports Illustrated is also making arrangements to send copies of its two latest issues on college basketball and baseball to soldiers in Iraq and surrounding areas.

Why is it called a "hamburger" when there is no ham in it?

Why is it "Where's the beef" when it should be where's the ham?

The answer is really quite simple: because Hamburg, Germany made the first hamburgers.

However, the history of the hamburger is actually more complicated. Who actually invented the first hamburger remains a mystery.

Some say it was a group of nomadic people called the Tartars who tenderized their beef by placing it under a horse's saddle--flattening it into a patty. Others believe it was the German immigrants who traveled to the United States during the 19th century bringing with them their favorite meal called Hamburg Style Beef-- a raw chopped, piece of beef. Some argue Americans placed the first cooked beef patty on a roll at the St. Louis World's Fair in 1921.

Heard this on the radio and had to share it:

Students in Russia have been using cockroaches to change their marks. They pour honey over the mark and when the cockroach eats it, it apparently takes the mark away with it so the student can simply write down a new mark heh.

Things have been kind of messed up for me lately, so my posts are going to be at the wrong times of the day unfortunately.

First, I worked on Thursday at Tollgate for that teacher I'm always there for it seems. It went well with few problems. My grandfather was taken to the hospital last Sat and was admitted Monday night with some kind of flu and was really sick. Thankfully he is doing better now, but not without more complications and worries. My grandmother tried to visit him yesterday but was unable to due to the hospital being closed to all visitors due to the SARS outbreak going on here in Ontario. This was a big worry for several reasons, including how they didn't really inform her very well of why she couldn't get into the hospital, combined with why he was in there, made for some worried times. In the end, everything was okay. He's having a serious gout attack now of course which has to be treated, but we have no idea when he'll be able to come home again due to the hospital being closed. While this ban is in place, no patients can leave.

I was finally able to get that time sheet problem from Tuesday sorted out this afternoon. The system they used was messed up for some time, so they couldn't get into the system to fix things. I called the store today to see if I have any hours next week and I don't. This makes 5 weeks of no work as of Sunday and going to at least 6 now before I work again. I've been thinking about it more and more and I keep thinking how I should probably just quit. It's been five weeks and I'm still doing okay financially. Must think about this more, but the job isn't doing anything for me anymore.

Today has been a bit rough ever since I woke up. I was feeling like hell with a sore/dry throat. For the last two days I've been feeling run down and out of it. I had assumed it was some of the temporary side effects of my new meds, but I guess it was my body trying to fight off the cold. Yay or something. Now I'm very sore on my right side so moving around has been difficult for me today, more fun. To top it all off, I've been all but kicked out of this room. I could stay, but then I'm stuck in a rather annoying position with the tv going watching stuff I don't really want to watch at all. Ugh. I'm now seriously considering rearranging this place so I have everything in my bedroom. It would be awkward, and not comfortable, but better than this annoyance.

I found this article and just had to share it. The title of the article? Prostitutes, porn stars and strippers get union backing.
